Westminster Shorter Catechism #7

Question 7:

What are the decrees of God?

Answer:

The decrees of God are, his eternal purpose, according to the counsel of his will, whereby, for his own glory, he hath foreordained whatsoever comes to pass.

“For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight.. In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will…” Ephesians 1:4, 11.

“What if God, choosing to show his wrath and make his power known, bore with great patience the objects of his wrath — prepared for destruction? What if he did this to make the riches of his glory known to the objects of his mercy, whom he prepared in advance for glory –” Romans 9:22-23
