Tymoshenko convicted

Well, all I can say is that we are living in interesting times. Former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has been convicted of exceeding her powers while in office. She has been ordered to be imprisoned for seven years and she will be required to reimburse the state $188 million in losses caused by the gas contract she negotiated with Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.

You have to love this stipulation: She is banned from seeking elected office for her period of imprisonment. Seems like a no brainer to me, but I’m sure there’s a reason that it’s been specifically noted.

So much for international pressure from the West.
