It is oh so very cold in Ukraine. Recent news articles report that 236 people have died, including 52 people who froze to death at home.
For the past couple of days we have been treated to a blue, blue sky. Many of the roadways and sidewalks are totally clear of snow or ice. But for those areas that are not yet clear, it is treacherous to maneuver. The ice is inches thick and not smooth at all. (Well, the black ice is smooth) The sidewalk resembles a miniature moguls course…the frozen impressions of various sized boots.
Today we were on the metro and Jim and I both said that it was the coldest we had ever been actually IN the metro car. We clearly saw our breath for the entire ride!
But after coffee and dark chocolate…snuggled into flannel pjs and in a comfy cozy chair…well, it’s not so bad. For us.
Pray for those families who have lost loved ones. Pray for those living on the street. Pray that this cold spell might break.
