Friday in Birmingham

Friday afternoon we followed great directions to the new home of our friends Heath and Nikki. These guys were gracious enough to keep us from Friday evening until Tuesday morning — amazing! Our schedule was crazy while in Birmingham and they just rolled with it all. A very special family.

We first met them in Kyiv several years ago when they were in Ukraine adopting their son Karson. We visited them once in Birmingham, but by this year’s visit, their family had grown again. Averi is one sweet little girl! While Nikki busily prepared dinner, we chit-chatted and watched the kids work out some fun designs with play-doh.

After being caught in a traffic jam for a bit, Heath came in proudly wearing the tie that Karson had made for him. That morning had been a special day for dads and their sons at Karson’s school — Doughnuts with Dad. All these fortunate dads had special ties…

We reminisced, we laughed, we ate and I had the privilege of reading Averi’s favorite book to her: Llama, Llama, Red Pajama.

Bedtime came quickly…as did the following morning.
