New Year’s trees

Okay, you can either turn your laptop on end. Or you can just turn your head to the side. I have a couple short videos of New Year’s trees, but I totally forgot that I couldn’t hold the camera vertically while filming…and I can’t rotate them. Soooo, fair warning:
First is the tree on the main public square — Independence Square.

The second is the tree on the square in our Kyiv neighborhood, Podil:

  1. That’s really cool. Did they do that all of the time or just at midnight?

  2. Thanks for sharing these videos–side-ways or otherwise! πŸ™‚

I’m always fascinated by how Russians ‘adapted’ to the ban on religious holidays. Since adopting our girls, New Year’s Eve has become a much bigger deal in our home–lots of chocolates, food, fun, silliness, etc. πŸ™‚ And, I have greater ‘justification’ for leaving our Christmas tree and decorations up till early January (Jan. 7)–I always hate to see ’em go back into storage!. πŸ™‚

BTW, today is Jan. 7th, Merry Christmas (according to the Russian calendar)!!!
