Election Day in Russia

Sunday is election day in Russia.  The campaign trail has been littered with all sorts of allegations and complaints.  Most interesting was the arrest of the leading opposition candidate … just one week ahead of the elections.  He has since been released.  All campaigning  officially came to an end on Friday, and now today (Saturday) is a Day of Silence.

I posted here about the organization of youth forces to guarantee victory for Putin’s party.  (He himself is not running in this election.)  But it appears that that was just the tip of the iceberg.  I read this article yesterday — the intimidation is deep and thorough.

Please pray for the people of Russia.  It certainly appears that any freedoms they might have had in the past are quickly slipping away.
